The PADI Project AWARE Fish ID Specialty Course provides you with the fish identification basics so that next time, you'll know the answer and will understand what you are seeing. Learn about identifying fish through their genus, species and family through physiological differences and find out more about the biodiversity of our marine area and habitats.

During your AWARE Fish Identification Diver Specialty Course, you'll practice basic fish identification techniques then collect fish identification data for submission to the Project AWARE Fish Survey Project.

This data is used to annually assess and monitor fish stocks of 10 chosen species over a number of years.

The course includes all the background you'll need to identify fish in your area, including:

• Information on Project AWARE and aquatic protection worldwide

• Fish survey techniques and strategies
  
• Fish identification dive planning, organization and procedures

What will I Learn during the PADI AWARE Fish ID Specialty Course?

The PADI AWARE Fish ID Specialty Course will introduce you to the most common fish families and species found in tropical waters. You'll also learn basic fish identification and scientific survey techniques as well as how important personal involvement is in aquatic conservation.

During two dives you'll gain hands-on experience looking for and identifying the fascinating fish you see underwater.

The course includes:

Who can participate in the PADI AWARE Fish Identification Course?

If you're aged 10+ and have already completed the PADI Open Water Diver Course (or equivalent), in general good health and fitness, and are not suffering from a cold or ear infection, you should be eligible to become a certified PADI AWARE Fish ID Specialty Diver.
